Photography and Painting
Duane Wurst has been an artist since a young age. After studying to be an art teacher, Duane taught art in Jr. High School, but was called to help in the family business. After 10 years as office manager, Duane returned to his art and became a full-time “artist”.
Traveling across Michigan and the Midwest, Duane sold his paintings at art festivals and major shopping centers. He classifies his acrylic paintings as photo realism, which confused buyers, since he also sold his original photography.
Duane met his wife, Sharon, at an art festival She was also an oil painter and together the exhibited until 1998, when they left the grind of selling on-the-road and decided to lead a more normal life.
Today Duane is again working on his photography and painting, recreating many of his paintings as prints, creating new images, and using antique photographs from the area to recreate history in his paintings. He is also the author of three Michigan based novels; Death on The Point, In Search of Elysium, and Deadly Sixteen, and is currently completing his forth novel.
Life can be fun, and busy, when you’re an artist.
